Plant Spirit Connection

Developing a spiritual connection with plant spirits can be a beautiful and transformative experience. It is one of the most incredible practices I’ve personally developed, one that completely changed my life once I started to grow into this magical aspect of life. If you’re curious to begin your own personal journey with plant spirits, here are some steps to consider as you prepare for your experience!

  1. Be open and receptive: The first step to connecting with plant spirits is to be open and receptive to their energy. Spend time with the plants and the natural world around you, observe them with an open heart and an open mind as you try to connect with their energy. It can take time to attune yourself to the Spirit of our plant friends, but don’t fret! Keep sitting with them and creating time.

  2. Set your intention: Setting an intention is an important part of any spiritual practice. Before connecting with plant spirits, take a moment to set your intention. This can be as simple as asking for guidance or setting the intention to deepen your connection with nature. What is it that you’re looking for? What do you want to learn from this plant, and why do you want to develop a connection with it?

  3. Experience the plant world with all five (or more!) of your senses: As you get to know the nature & plant spirits and develop your own special connection, feel them out in the physical as well. How does the plant smell and how does that make you feel? Scent is a gateway to perception and memory. What color is the plant and what does that make you think of, what do you associate with that color? Two of the senses I must put a disclaimer, which is, make sure it is safe to do so! (Please do not touch or taste anything that you’re unfamiliar with or is potentially dangerous.) With that being said! Assuming it’s safe to do so, touch the plant, what does it feel like between your fingertips and in your hands? What does the herb or plant taste like? The last of the five major senses is the hardest one of them all, which is hearing. However, when it comes to the plant world, we don’t simply hear, we have to truly create space to listen. Can you hear it talk to you? Do any phrases or words pop into your mind? Trust your intuition here and jot them down when you have a chance.

  4. Meditate with plants: Sitting in meditation with a plant can be a powerful way to connect with its spirit. Find a quiet place outdoors and sit with a plant that you feel drawn to. Focus on your breath and allow yourself to become fully present in the moment. As you sit with the plant, allow its energy to flow into you.

  5. Use plant medicine: Plant medicine, such as (safe) herbal teas or tinctures, can be a wonderful way to connect with plant spirits. As you consume the plant medicine, take time to tune in to its energy and allow yourself to be guided by the wisdom that comes from it.

  6. Practice gratitude: Expressing gratitude is an important part of any spiritual practice. It’s incredibly important to take time to thank the plant spirits for their guidance and for the gifts that they offer. Giving thanks not only connects you further with the plant spirits, but it helps the plant spirits develop a connection with you, as well.

Remember, developing a spiritual connection with plant spirits is a journey that requires patience, openness, and dedication. With time and practice, you can cultivate a deep and meaningful relationship with the elemental & plant world.

Connecting with plant spirits can help you feel a deeper sense of connection not only with the plants around you but also with the natural world as a whole. It can also bring about a sense of peace and well-being as you tap into the wisdom and energy of these ancient beings, many of which that were here long before we were.

As you begin this journey, it’s important to approach it with an open mind and heart. Remember that each plant has its own unique spirit and energy, so take time to get to know the plants that you feel drawn to.

Another important thing to learn about it something called “The Doctrine of Signatures”, which is the concept in the herbal world that posits a plant's appearance is indicative of its properties, be that spiritual or otherwise. This I’m going to go into further in another post, but essentially, look at number 2 & 3 on this list, and that’ll help get you started there.

By meditating with plants, using plant medicine, and expressing gratitude, you can begin to develop a deep and meaningful relationship with plant spirits. With time and practice, you may find that this connection becomes an integral part of your spiritual practice and daily life. So take the first step and allow the wisdom and energy of the plants to guide you on your journey.
