Mugwort Tincture Artemisia vulgaris
Mugwort
Botanical Name: Artemisia vulgaris
Mugwort is an herb often associated with the goddess Artemis, hence the botanical name Artemesia, and Artemis was the protector of women and children, of birth, nature, and the hunt, as well as associated with the Moon. The moon in this case has two aspects. One is within the dream world, which Mugwort is used to help us access, but also with the menstrual cycle, also called the "moon cycle" for those who bear a uterus. Mugwort is pretty multifaceted and is worth the exploration!
Used to help support and balance the menstrual cycle, bringing on bleeding when the menses are scanty or late, moves congestion in the pelvic area, and is an antispasmodic, making it helpful in many ways but including with menstrual cramps. As a mild nervine, it's useful to reduce PMS symptoms, particularly when it's accompanied by irritability, anxiety, or depression. It's important to note that this herb has abortifacient qualities to it and should absolutely not be used during pregnancy.
Beyond that, Mugwort is also a bitter, helping to stimulate the digestive process, acting as an antiseptic to the digestive tract, and having antiparasitic qualities.
Mugwort is also associated with the dream world, as mentioned above, and is an herb that can be used before bed or meditation if you want to try and get connected in that realm using the beautiful magick of this plant. If you're interested in learning more about this, I have a PDF from a class I taught called "Mugwort & Magick" and it'll teach you all sorts of things about how to work with Mugwort energetically!
Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Suggested Use:
Shake well. Take 1-3 mL (dropperfuls), 2-3 times a day, or as needed.
Those who are sensitive to the taste of herbal extracts, I recommend adding the dosage to a tablespoon or so of water or juice.
